Lunch today in Oaxaca

grasshoppers are quite tasty, believe it or not.

Pyramid of the Sun and the Moon

My legs are still hurting from the climb to the top of the pyramid of the moon. This is a view looking down the avenue of the dead.

Mexico City

Kel and I went to Xochimilco Floating Gardens on Sunday. The most bizzare way of spending a Sunday but hundreds of mexicans don´t think so. Mariachi players, floating vendors selling food and flowers and rugs and jewellry. We took an hour long boat ride down a very dingy river, that you didn´t really notice because of all the activity afloat.
This was the view from our hotel room in Mexico City. The haze is not mist or snow but pollution. Someone forgot to mention that Christmas to New year in Mexico city is standing room only almost everywhere. It´s the busy place we have ever seen.

Cowboyz in Sante Fe

Saints and Markets

This morning we visited the Indian jewellery market held outdoors each day in the main square of Sante Fe. The artists have to enter a lottery every day to see if they get to have a stall or not. Some of the jewellery was absolutely beautiful silver, turquoise, coral shell. We both have spent way too much money here but are having a lot of fun doing it.

This is a picture of Kel with the miracle stairs. Made by an anonymous carpenter (apparently) who used just hammer and chisel and left without being paid. Surprisingly the roof did not cave in during our visit.

Sights of Sante Fe

Kel and I have both decided that we could definitely live here. A city completely made up of adobe houses, even the McDonalds was Adobe.

Lots of things here are big.. like the utes and the BBQ (we ate at Cowgirls BBQ and Grill).

Monument Valley was the highlight so far...

The scenery here is absolutely stunning. Right in the middle of Navajo Nation. We drove 17 miles around the bases of the massive structures.

Navajo National Monument

We were literally the only tourists here at this National Park. Yes, it was freezing.

but the view was amazing. This pueblo is an ancient village, built into the side of a cliff face, that was vacated because of a 20 year drought.

Grand views from the Grand Canyon and National Monument

Where's the Canyon? oh over there...somewhere

Day 1 of the road trip with Babs

All you need is a good friend or two and a truck...
to enjoy Route 66

Its actually night time in Vegas

Watching the gondolas at the Venetian in Vegas. The sky is fake, the location is fake. The tack is real but very classy.

Lollygagging in Las Vegas

Lollygagging is our new word. Definition: doing a lot of nothing very much. But its its a fabulous place to do it in.

Farewell to the Chooks

In order to figure out how to load photos into the blog my first attempt is a photo of the chooks. Hence the title, farewell to the chooks. I promise the entries will get better after this.

It's 3 weeks until we go. I guess we are just a bit excited!
